Publication Standards
Publication criteria
Claves Jurídicas only admits original articles that meet its own specific publication standards.
Articles that are formed by a sequence of paragraphs extracted from other publications shall not be accepted, even when that extraction or origin is indicated.
Publication frequency
Claves Jurídicas has a biannual periodicity, generally issuing 2 volumes per year. Each volume shall be published on July and January. Expedited review is available for articles submitted before:
- 15th of May for the first Issue1.
- 15th of November for the second issue.
Notwithstanding, articles may be considered after this deadline depending on availability.
Articles review
Articles received shall be submitted to a peer review process by Claves Jurídicas Editor. Two external evaluators will report within a maximum period of four weeks, on the following aspects:
1.- The topic issues discussed and the originality of the topic addressed.
2.- Relationship of the article with the theme of the Journal.
3.- The research work carried out, as well as the quality and legal rigor of the arguments presented.
These reports will be taken into account by the Executive Director and the Editor to decide on their publication or rejection, informing the authors of the final decision made.
Authors shall communicate the reception of the editorial review within three days, after the editor has notified said review. Author shall not exceed the time limits assigned by the Journal to deliver the article with the modifications proposed. Failure to comply with these obligations may lead to the publication being rejected.
Acta Judicial shall send preprints to author.
Articles that are not accepted for publication shall not be used for any other purpose by Claves Jurídicas.
Claves Jurídicas is not responsible for the personal opinions of the authors.
Evaluation ethical requirements
The referees will not evaluate the article, if any of the following circumstances concur:
1.- Conflict of interest. If the referee has collaborated directly or indirectly with the articles authorship or if there is has any kind of relationship, by consanguinity or affinity, friendship or manifest enmity with the authors
2.- Availability of time. If evaluation deadline cannot be accomplished.
3.- Confidentiality. Third parties´ intervention is completely forbidden.
4.- Self-citations. The evaluator will refrain from suggesting citation referring contributions from his authorship or other articles included in the Journal.

Submission of articles
Registration or logging is required before submitting an article (logging). Title, abstract and key words (both in Spanish and English) and bibliography, shall be included by submission.
Publication standards
Authors must send their texts in Word format (doc, docx) in any of its versions.
1. Articles content
Articles should be approximately 8,000 to 20,000 words in length, excluding the abstracts, keywords and table of contents. In all cases, the formal requirement that articles be between 15 and 40 pages long, in accordance with the journal’s template, shall prevail. Although, exceptionally, articles up to 50 pages may be admitted. In that case, authors may provide a brief explanation about the length extension of the article.
Claves Jurídicas provides a proper format template (template). The use of the Journal´s template is mandatory.
Articles must be written in Spanish, following the rules of the Real Academia Española de la Lengua (its different dictionaries and fundéuRAE).
Articles must contain the following elements:
- Title of the article, both in Spanish and English.
- Full name of the author or authors (maximum 4), indicating their affiliation (profession or academic activity) and an electronic contact address.
- An abstract of 250 words maximum (both in Spanish and English).
- Keywords: No more than 10 words, separated by commas, are allowed for each language, with a maximum of 2 lines.
- Summary, consisting of the headings and sub-headings of the article.
- The text of the article including the tables and figures (if any).
- A complete list of the bibliographic references shall be included at the end of article. The bibliographic references will be arranged in alphabetical order. In case of multiple citation of the same author chronological order of the publication date shall be used.
- Authors may incorporate appropriate hyperlinks, blue style and avoiding underlined.
- Authors shall indicate, if there is any type of conflict of interest at the end of the article, and if there is any kind of financing, public or private, supporting the research.
2. Articles format
The use of the Journal´'s template is mandatory. The editorial board shall ask authors to fulfill this requirement. Not following this instruction may lead to articles refusal.
The template format standards as follow:
- Sheet size. Articles must be written on the following premises: Paper size A4, with 3 cm margins on each side (top, bottom, left and right), with Palatino Linotype base font, 12 point size and single spacing, without any line spacing. In a single column. “Special indentation” in “first line” of 1.25 cm (click here to see how to do it in Word).
- Title of the article in Spanish. It must be in Capital Letter, Palatino Linotype 14, centered in bold (Style “Título 1” of the template).
- Title of the article in English. It must be in Lowercase, Palatino Linotype 12, centered in bold (Style “Title in English” of the template).
- Authors. The name and surname of the authors must appear, in Palatino Linotype 12 font, centered (Style “Título 2” of the template).
- Authors affiliation, such as profession, academic activity, etc., in Palatino Linotype 10, centered (Style “Filiación” of the template).
- Author email: The author's contact email must be included in Palatino Linotype 10, (Style “Filiación” of the template).
- Abstracts. They must have a maximum length of 250 words, in Palatino Linotype 10, justified (Style “Normal” of the template).
- Keywords. There must be between five and ten words, both in Spanish and English, separated by commas in Palatino Linotype 10 justified (Style “Normal” of the template).
- Article body. With Palatino Linotype base font, 12 point size and single spacing, paragraph justified, without spacing before and after. In a single column. Only “Special indentation” in “first line” of 1.25 cm (click here to see how to do it in Word).
- Headings and sub-headings (epigraph and sub epigraph). The titles of the different sections (epigraph and sub epigraph) must appear in lowercase and bold, preceded by the corresponding non – automatic numbering, considering the following structure:
1. first level
1.1. second level
1.1.1. third level
1.1.1.a. fourth level
Please leave a space between epigraph and the next paragraph.
Headings and sub-headings (epigraph and sub epigraph) must be activated "Widows/Orphan control" and "Keep with next" (in "Pagination" of "Lines and page breaks" of the "Paragraph" section of Word (click here to see how to do it in Word)
- Footnotes. Footnotes will be numbered consecutively at the end of each page in Palatino Linotype 10 justified, single spacing, paragraph justified, without spacing before and after. Click here for footnotes consultation.
- Page numbering. The page numbers will be aligned to the right in Palatino Linotype 10.13. Bibliography. A complete list of the bibliographic references shall be included at the end of article. The bibliographic references will be arranged in alphabetical order. In case of multiple citation of the same author chronological order of the publication date shall be used.
- Hyperlinks. Authors may incorporate appropriate hyperlinks, blue style and avoiding underline, unless it states a citation or legal reference. In that case the citation standards must be complied.
3. Citation and bibliographic reference format
Bibliographic references shall comply with ISO 690:2021, Information and documentation — Guidelines for bibliographic references and citations to information resources, adopted in Spain as UNE-ISO 690:2024, together with the specific style requirements established by Revista Claves Jurídicas. UNE-ISO 690:2024 supersedes UNE-ISO 690:2013.
UNE-ISO 690:2024 provides for a system of consecutively numbered notes, equivalent to the continuous notes system required by Revista Claves Jurídicas.
Citation: Footnote numbers shall be inserted consecutively. If the same resource is cited more than once, a separate footnote number shall be used for each mention giving rise to a citation.
Reference: References shall be presented in numerical order. If it refers to a resource already mentioned (resource cited as a previous note), either the full reference may be repeated, or the number of the previous citation may be settle, adding the prior page number that contain that reference. - Data sources: Data used in a reference shall be taken, in order of preference, from the cited information resource or from the metadata it includes. Where those data are insufficient, authoritative external sources may be used, such as bibliographic catalogues, authority files, institutional repositories or landing pages. Within the resource, preference shall be given to the title page or title screen, embedded metadata, the reverse of the title page or masthead, the cover or label, the carrier and accompanying documentation.
Information supplied by the citing author that does not appear in the source shall be enclosed in square brackets [ ] where necessary to distinguish it from the original source data.
- Language of references: This English page is a translation of the Journal's Spanish guidelines and does not establish a separate English citation style. Connecting terms, labels and bibliographic abbreviations shall be written in the language of the article. Since Revista Claves Jurídicas publishes articles in Spanish, expressions such as “En:”, “Disponible en:”, “consulta”, “trad.”, “vol.”, “n.”, “p.” and “pp.” shall be used. Authors' names, titles of works, journal titles and other data taken from the cited resource shall remain in their original language and script. Where necessary to facilitate identification or understanding, a translation, transliteration or transcription may be added in square brackets.
- Consistency: All references in an article shall follow a single scheme of order, punctuation and typography. Bold type, parentheses or other typographic devices shall not be used as the sole means of identifying volume, issue or page numbers. Those elements shall be expressly identified by “vol.”, “n.”, “p.” or “pp.”, as applicable. Italics shall be used to emphasise titles in accordance with the Journal's models.
- Edition, version and format consulted: The reference shall describe the edition, version, format or manifestation actually used. A preprint, an earlier version or an edition different from the one actually consulted shall not be cited as the published version. Where PDF, HTML, EPUB or other formats differ in content or pagination, the format used shall be identified.
- Persistent identifiers and links: Where a resource has a persistent identifier, such as a DOI, Handle, ARK or URN, it shall be included as an actionable hyperlink. DOI names shall be expressed in the form https://doi.org/.... Where a persistent identifier exists, the ordinary URL of the resource's current location shall not be included instead of or in addition to that identifier, unless it identifies a different copy with relevant access conditions. Where no persistent identifier exists, preference shall be given to a permanent link, an archived copy or, as a last resort, the URL of the version consulted. URL-shortening services shall not be used.
- Access dates and dynamic resources: The full access date shall be stated where the resource is dynamic, where no other reliable date is available, where it is necessary to identify the exact version used, or where a digital item whose location may change is cited. Where a specific version of a dynamic resource is cited, a link to an archived copy shall be provided where possible.
3.1. Bibliographic reference models under UNE-ISO 690:2024 and the Journal's editorial style
The models in this section apply to entries in the final bibliography. Footnotes shall additionally include the exact page, paragraph, section or other locator corresponding to the information used. Specific pages consulted shall not be included in the bibliographic entry for a complete book. In the case of book chapters, journal articles and other component parts, the full page range of the contribution shall be included.
Where a resource has up to five creators in the same category, all shall be listed in the order in which they appear in the source. Where a resource has six or more creators, all shall be listed whenever possible. If it is not possible to include them all, the first five shall be given, followed by “y otros” or “et al.”. In the Journal's models, surnames shall precede given names and different creators shall be separated by semicolons.

Other types of resources
For doctoral theses and dissertations, reports, technical standards, datasets, programs and applications, archival materials, web pages and web archives, social media, audiovisual resources or other resource types not covered by the preceding models, the elements required to identify and retrieve the version actually used shall be provided: creator, title, resource type, edition or version, producer or publisher, date, distributor or platform, persistent identifier or URL, and access date where applicable.
3.2. Legal sources: the Journal's own editorial style
References to legislation, case law and treaties fall outside the scope of ISO 690:2021 and UNE-ISO 690:2024. These sources shall comply with the specific legal citation style of Revista Claves Jurídicas set out below. The COUNTRY or ORGANISATION shall be specified in the reference when the article deals with comparative law and it is necessary to distinguish between the countries or organisations concerned.

Case law
Judicial decisions shall be identified, as a minimum, by the court, chamber or section where relevant, the type and number of the decision, the date, and any other information needed to locate it. Where a decision was consulted online, the official portal or database shall be identified and an official or stable link shall be added.
